Dillon Ethier I would describe the bulk of this album as a highly talented guitarist just jamming and soloing over African rhythms, with some modern electronic elements filling out the sound. I guess you could call it rock, but it's not quite like any I've heard before. Seems Dr. Beaf deserves credit for this one! Favorite track: Deep Phreegan.

Philip Graham Love the rhythmic intensity, the looping guitar lines, and the sense of a journey into mysterious territory. Favorite track: Oeado.

Ed Buckley This is wonderful, and strange. Built around simple Zulu beats/rhythms, this S. African electric guitarist builds complex swirls and skittering riffs, and then often plays with that using some processing technique (pedals?). At heart a rock album he incorporates a number of other styles to great effect. Afro-rock pops!(huh?) Found on Dr. Beafs page. A definite fist bump good heathmarshal!

Roy Meerkamper Generally not a fan of world music, but this one works really well. African beats, interesting bass lines, beautiful guitar work, wide range of moods. Very different. Thanks to Beaf. Favorite track: Oeado.
Dr. Beaf

Dr. Beaf I am a massive fret-less bass fan, and anything that is different - and this album is all of that. It has elements that are repetitive with African, middle eastern, jazz, new age and electronic influences fused into a great end product. I'd love to listen to this while walking through the album artwork! Favorite track: Deep Phreegan.

about

Maskanda is a style of Zulu Traditional Music, based around simple, repetitive beats and melodies.
It is music which accompanies a Long Journey, hence 'Walking Music'....
This collection of songs represents a modern interpretation of that style.
